No Such Thing As Blind Faith

I don’t believe in blind faith.

I believe you can make a leap of faith and you can step out in faith, but faith in God is not blind. The life of the believer is one that is lived by “faith and not by sight,” but faith in God is never blind.

Faith is not blind.

When I was first getting clean and sober, I would hear people say that I didn’t have to start my spiritual journey with some epic faith in God. They said I could start wherever I was at. What was required of me was was an open-mindedness to believe that God could actually be real and the willingness to put forth the effort to give it a shot.

I guess I always assumed that to become a Christian I had to sign on the dotted line and believe all at once everything the preacher did. I thought I had to believe first. I thought my relationship with God was based on my ability to have faith. I had no idea that God was so personal and wanted to walk with me into a journey of discovering who He really was!

For me, my faith has not been a shot in the dark, a hope, or a wish. Faith has been a personal experience that has confirmed something to be real. My faith is a proven track record of a reliable God. I now have years of experience that prove to me just how real and dependable He is. Today, I know that I know. But I didn’t have any of that in the beginning. If I needed the faith I now have back then to get started - I would never have made it.

So where does faith come from?

Faith comes from God.

Faith comes from a God who first reveals Himself to us.

Before we believe. Before we love Him. Before we have a personal history with Him. Before we can ever do anything to earn Him. He shows up in our lives and invites us on the journey of faith.

That is what is so amazing about Jesus. We don’t have to prove to Him that we have faith before He proves to us that He is The Christ. He goes first. He loves first. We say yes and follow Him.

So if you’re like I was, turned off to Jesus because you can’t seem to accept it all in blind faith, I’ve got good news for you. Jesus wants to reveal Himself to you. Before you buy in and before you believe. Just simply ask Him to make Himself real and I promise you, if you really mean it from your heart, He totally will.
