Eyes Wide Open
It is time to see The Lord move in our lives with our eyes wide open!
When I first started praying for people, especially when I was ministering to the sick, I would always close my eyes. I’m not sure where we learn to pray with our eyes closed, but most of us do.
I would keep my eyes closed basicly because I was wayyyy out of my comfort zone, often praying for complete strangers in public places. I was trying to block out what other people might be thinking, as I was believing God for miracles. I also found it easier to focus on God with my eyes closed.
A few years back, I was introduced to a healing evangelist who was an overseas missionary. His assignment was to minister to unreached peoples. He spent a lot of time in Muslim nations. The focus of his evangelistic ministry was healing the sick and casting out demons. Wild stuff.
This missionary would show up in a city and begin ministering to the sick and demonized who lived there. Someone would get healed and/or delivered, and then he would then ask that person to invite as many interested friends and family that they could to a church service. He would then begin preaching and sharing the gospel. It’s a pretty edgy approach to ministry, but the Lord really used this guy.
I met him while he was in America, raising support for another round of missions work. Seeing him in action and hearing his teachings on the authority of the Believer was incredible! It was life-changing, really. But what stuck with me the most was that he never ministered to people with his eyes closed. When he would pray for someone to be healed, he would keep his eyes open the whole time. As he ministered healing or freedom to an individual, he would stare right at them. I’m sure this would seem pretty strange if you didn’t understand what was going on, but it’s something I’ll never forget.
Praying with our eyes open feels weird because we don’t feel like God can do anything if we’re watching. We look away to give God a minute to do His thing, and then we look back, hoping something has changed.
A lot of us go through our lives like this. We don’t expect the miraculous to happen while we’re watching. But it’s time to get an appetite to see the impossible happen! God is ready to move through His people like never before, and He’s looking for those who will believe on Him to do it!
If 2020 has taught us anything, it’s that we need God. We don’t have the answers and the ability to fix all the issues we encounter. We pray for God to do something, but do we really believe He will answer and move mountains right before us?
Every child of God has been given a desire to see strongholds destroyed, mountains move, and giants fall. Let us walk forward, eyes wide open, knowing that God is on the move!
